About

Curtis E. Spence

In 2019, while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment, I discovered watercolor painting as a source of grounding and renewal. What began as a way to pass time evolved into a deeply personal creative practice.

My work is largely self-taught, shaped in part by my background in photography and videography, where I developed an eye for visual storytelling. As a visual artist, my work weaves together abstract watercolor painting and reflective text to explore themes of personal growth, social justice, cultural critique, identity, and belonging.

By balancing the fluidity of color with the precision of words, I aim to create a dialogue between what is seen and what is felt – inviting viewers to engage on both intellectual and emotional levels. Each piece stands as a point of reflection, encouraging a deeper exploration of meaning within and across shared human experience.
